First league game, first league goal. That’s how Samu Omorodion, who Diego Simeone subsequently brought into the team, shone in the season opener against Atlético Madrid. Who is this great Spanish talent?
First league game, first league goal. That’s exactly how Samu Omorodion, who Diego Simeone subsequently brought into the team, shone in the season opener against Atlético Madrid. Who is this great Spanish talent?
Omorodion has so far only played in the lower Spanish leagues, where he scored 18 goals in 33 games last season.
These great results earned him a place in Granada’s A-team, and Paco López was so impressed with him that he put him straight into the starting line-up. The 19-year-old striker rewarded him with a goal.
Omorodion’s goal, however, did not help matters. Granada tied the game at 1-1 in the 62nd minute with the aforementioned goal, but subsequent goals from Memphis Depay and Marcos Llorente meant three points for Atlético.
However, apparently almost immediately after the match, Diego Simeone was clear about his next signing, as he began to discuss with his team the arrival of Granada’s only goal scorer.
This was eventually done without much trouble by the Atlético Madrid management, who paid a buyout clause for Omorodion reportedly worth €5 million and signed the player on a 5-year contract.
The talented striker will have a lot of competition in the Madrid squad, however, the vast majority of the strikers at Simeone’s disposal are already around 30 years old. The Spanish talent thus offers an interesting alternative.
Omorodion is a 193 cm tall striker who looks very mature at his age and like a born killer. Atlético Madrid have produced a number of great strikers and it is likely that the 19-year-old Spaniard will follow in the footsteps of his predecessors.
