Spectator unrest caused the derby between FC Sevilla and Betis Sevilla to end prematurely. It happened after a goal scored by Nabil Fekir of Betis, when fans of the celebrating team threw objects onto the pitch. But one of them hit a player.
On Saturday, the Sevilla derby was played, with Sevilla FC leading the home side with a 35th minute goal. But four minutes later we saw a big change in emotions.
Nabir Fekir scored beautifully straight from a corner kick, but unfortunately his goal was overshadowed by the act of Betis fans throwing objects into the pitch.
One of the objects, however, was a steel bar that hit the head of twenty-seven-year-old Sevilla FC midfielder Joan Jordán.
He went down right in front of the referee’s eyes. The player was taken to the booths and the match was suspended for a few minutes.
After that, the referee decided to end the match prematurely and the Spanish Federation decided the result. It is almost certain that Betis will lose by default.
It should be added that this was a cup match, so Betis will not be affected in the league. It is also a question of whether the culprit will be found and punished.
