In the first preliminary round of the Conference Europa League, our neighbours from Slovakia had one more representative besides Spartak Trnava. Žilina managed to beat Georgian Dila Gori and after a 5:1 win they have one foot in the second preliminary round.
Two Czechs played for Puskás Academy. Patricio Stronati in defence and Jakub Plšek in attack. It was the ex-Lomouc chic who scored the only goal for the Hungarian team and secured a 1:1 draw with Inter Turku from Finland.
Dundalk, a traditional Europa League participant in recent years, also had to fight their way out of the first preliminary round this year, beating Welsh side Newton 4-0.
Slask Wroclaw, another famous team, had a lot to do to avoid a shameful draw with Estonian Paide Linnameeskond. In the end they won 2: 1 thanks to a goal at the end of the game.
Slovenia’s Domžale must also be considered one of the strongest in the first round of the Conference Europa League. We have seen them in the Europa League from time to time, and they opened this year’s long journey with a win over Luxembourg’s Swift Hesperange.
Maribor, another club from Slovenia, even has relatively recent Champions League experience. This year, however, they are only playing for the “third prize” as they are only one point behind Mura in the title race. They had a lot of work to do against the Armenian outsider Yerevan, but in the end they beat them 1-0.
