Pittsburgh beat Montreal in overtime with goal by Pettersson

Montreal controlled the game until the end of the 2nd period
The home team was the more active scorer in the first period, outshooting Montreal 13-10. The crowd waited until the 16th minute for the first goal, when Canadiens defenseman Kaiden Guhle shot past home goalie Tristan Jarry. The score remained the same for the rest of the period. The players went into the locker room with the score 0:1 in favor of the Canadiens.
The Penguins were more active in the 2nd period, outshooting their opponents 14-11. And at the beginning of the 5th minute it bore its fruit. Canadiens goalie Jake Allen scored for the first time off the stick of Lars Eller. He tied the game at (1:1).
However, in the 12th minute, Penguins defenseman Kris Letang went to the penalty box for illegal defending. And less than a minute later, Montreal took advantage of a power play. Junior Juraj Slavkovsky beat Jarry to give the Canadiens their second lead of the game.
It was the seventh goal of the season and 20th point for the Slovakian. Montreal went into the locker room with the lead again. This time (1:2). But Pittsburgh didn’t give up. The last period of the game was very poor in shots. Both teams combined for only 10 shot attempts.
Penguins turn the game around by goal of Pettersson
One of the Penguins shots found its way into the net. Specifically, at 10:03, Jake Allen was beaten for the second time in the game. Jake Guentzel scored his 22nd goal of the season. Penguins captain Sidney Crosby contributed with an assist, for him it was point number 50.
The game was tied again. The Penguins captain reached the mark for the 15th time in his career. And even in his 19th season, he still holds a point per game. This season, he has 27 goals and 23 assists in 46 games played.
By the end of the third period, the score was unchanged. Overtime followed. And here the home team was the lucky one. At 62:43 Marcus Pettersson decided the game for the home team. The assists went to Evgeni Malkin and Rickard Rakell.
It was a very important win for Pittsburgh. It kept them within striking distance of a playoff position. They are currently five points behind eighth-place Philadelphia, but the Flyers have played four more games.
