The situation regarding the future of Jiri Pavlenko is finally clear. The former Slavia or Baník Ostrava goalkeeper will stay in Germany! He has extended his contract with Werder, but for how long is not clear at the moment.
“Pavlas has shown in recent years that he can play at a top level. Moreover, he loves the club and the city. He was with us when we were relegated from the first league and he was one of the key figures for our comeback. I’m glad we can continue our journey together,” Werder director Clemens Fritz told the club’s website.
Pavlenka, meanwhile, said recently that he could not imagine Bremen spending more than one year in the second league.
In any case, as Fritz himself stated, Pavlenka was one of the key figures in Bremen’s promotion back to the elite.
The team from the north of Germany finished with 63 points in the second league, finishing in the number two position behind the competition winner Schalke 04, who collected 65 points. Both teams avoided the barrier and are now in the Bundesliga.
Hamburg finished third and still have to qualify for the top 18 in the barrage. Hamburg will face Hertha Berlin there.
Pavlenka came to Bremen in 2017 from Slavia Prague, where he played 135 games in the top league and another 23 in the second league. He has so far recorded 31 clean sheets in this portion of matches.
“I’m happy that I can link my future with Werder. My family and I feel really at home in Bremen and for this reason it was an obvious decision for me. We have secured promotion back to the Bundesliga and I look forward to the challenges that await us,” added Pavlenka.
