Will Füllkrug leave Werder? Torino is seriously interested in him, Bremen have even set a price for the 30-year-old striker
Thirty-year-old striker Niclas Füllkrug could still leave Germany in his old footballing days. The Werder Bremen player has not played in any other country in his career so far, but now Turin has shown serious interest in him.
Thirty-year-old striker Niclas Füllkrug could still leave Germany in his old footballing days. The Werder Bremen player has not played in any other country in his career so far, but now Turin has shown serious interest in him.
Werder Bremen, Greuther Fürth, Hannover and Nuremberg – these are the clubs where Füllkrug has worked in his career so far.
However, it is clearly Bremen where he has played the most games, with 117 appearances across all competitions so far. However, it can be said that the Hannover native has never been considered a top-level striker.
Prior to his current engagement at Werder, Füllkrug had only scored more than ten goals in one season twice. That was in 2015/16 and 2017/18 (both with 14 goals), when he was at Nürnberg (2. Bundesliga – ed.) and Hannover respectively.
However, in the 2021/22 season, the turning point came when Füllkrug was one of the absolutely key parts of the team in the chase for promotion to the first league. He scored 19 goals and assisted 8 more in 33 games, a great performance he has carried over into the current season.
In 24 league games he scored 15 goals and assisted in five more. Füllkrug is poised for another great season and it is no wonder that his qualities are also being noticed by clubs from other competitions.
Football Italia has learned that Torino have shown serious interest in the Werder forward. The Italian club lost Andrea Belotti last season and there is a noticeable gap in the centre of the attack.
Turin are planning to open negotiations with the German outfit for the transfer of Füllkrug, while Werder are not opposed to his sale. However, Bremen have set a price tag of €20 million for their striker.
So the imaginary ball is now in Turin’s court. But as it seems, there is nothing preventing a potential transfer from the point of view of both clubs. So will Füllkrug try another competition?
