Not West Ham, not Tottenham. Milenkovic stays at Fiorentina
For a long time it looked like Nikola Milenkovic would move to the Premier League. However, that is unlikely to happen this summer as the Serbian stopper has agreed a new contract with Fiorentina.
For a long time it looked like Nikola Milenkovic would move to the Premier League. However, that is unlikely to happen this summer as the Serbian stopper has agreed a new contract with Fiorentina.
His previous contract was due to expire in the summer of 2022, and there was very strong speculation in the football world that Fiorentina would want to sell their player this year so as not to risk him leaving for free.
West Ham were interested in the player, but when the negotiations didn’t go anywhere for a long time, Tottenham also joined the fight for the player, who even after the acquisition of Cristian Romero didn’t stop with strengthening the defensive line.
However, both English clubs seem to be out of luck this transfer window as Milenkovic has decided to sign a new contract with Fiorentina until 2023.
A big influence on the staying of the 23-year-old Serbian is undoubtedly the departure of Germán Pezzella, who is headed to Real Betis, so Fiorentina don’t want to lose two stoppers in one summer.
However, as Milenkovic has only extended his contract by one year, it is not impossible that he will only stay at Fiorentina for the next season and leave next summer.
He can now take comfort in the fact that this season he will have his compatriot Matija Nastasic in defence, who is one step away from a transfer from Schalke to Fiorentina.
