That match was one of the biggest surprises at the Masters in Miami. Hungarian tennis player Fabian Marozsan clearly defeated the favored Dane Rune. And the Hungarian’s other results are proof that the Dane’s statement after losing the match definitely lacked something.

Fabian Marozsan

This tennis player gets into some fabulous form from time to time. At that moment, Hungarian Marozsan is capable of beating almost anyone.

He has already dropped his first match in a tournament four times this year, but especially in Masters tournaments he can be a real handful at times. Last year, for example, he put a stop to Alcaraz and his admirable streak at this level in Rome.

At the current event in Miami, he is again at his best. His quick process with the favoured Dane Rune is one of the biggest surprises of the tournament. It’s the Masters all over again.

Rune bit the defeat hard and in his post-match statement he did not give credit to the Hungarian player, but blamed everything on his poor health. But Marozsan proves that the cornerstone of his success was definitely not the Dane’s frame of mind.

The Hungarian tennis player managed two more rounds after his smooth victory against Rune. Without losing a set, he defeated Jiri Lehecka’s conqueror, Australian Popyrin, which earned him a place in the eighth round.

What followed was perhaps an even bigger surprise than the victory over Rune. The native of Budapest found a recipe for another member of the ATP top ten.

In his match with De Minaur, Marozsan needed three sets for the first time in Miami. But he won the decider convincingly 6:1 and is now looking to be among the last four players in the tournament. He will challenge Germany’s Zverev.

Like Tomas Machac, the Hungarian tennis player has his work cut out for him in Florida. But just like the Czech representative, he is close to a historic achievement. His surprising results may not be over.
