A spanking and a self-serving statement after the game! Rune subject to criticism
This fight definitely didn’t go his way. Danish tennis player Holger Rune extended the ranks of the favourites who are saying goodbye in their first match in Miami. Why didn’t many people like his reaction after losing the match?
This fight definitely didn’t go the way he wanted. Danish tennis player Holger Rune extended the ranks of the favourites who are saying goodbye in their first match in Miami. Why didn’t many people like his reaction after losing the match?
Rune in Miami
Rain disrupted the schedule of the second Masters tournament of the year. One of the tournament favourites, Danish tennis player Holger Rune, did not play his opening match until Sunday.
And he’d rather not even start in retrospect. He took a big beating from Marozsan of Hungary. After two sets 1:6, the world number seven says goodbye.
In his post-match statement, Rune admitted that he was not in optimal condition before the match, but he simply did not want to give up. “In hindsight, I should have withdrawn,” he added on his X network account.
The problem is that he didn’t mention a word about his opponent. No praise, no wishes for future matches. In a situation like this, that would have been definitely appropriate.
Admitting that the opponent was simply better and congratulating him is the polite thing to do in the situation. The fact that the Dane was outplayed by the underdog is actually a simple assessment of the reality of the situation.
Rune is by no means the first favourite to fail to make his entrance into the tournament in Florida. The results of the favourites in Miami resemble an exodus rather than a confirmation of their position on the rankings.
Fabian Marozsan
The winner of the incriminated match is definitely worth paying attention to. Twenty-four-year-old Marozsan secured his move to the best ranking of his career to date with his victory over Rune.
The current number one in Hungarian tennis is attacking a position in the elite 50 of the rankings and this is not the first time he has shocked the tennis public. He has been saving his best moments so far for the Masters category events.
At a tournament of this valuable level last year in Shanghai, he surprised with his run, which ended only in the quarterfinals. He beat de Minaur or Ruud. He won even more glory in another Masters event in May.
In Rome then, as a qualifier, he ended the streak of the demon of last year’s clay season, Alcaraz. He had previously triumphed in all twelve of his clay matches in a row.
The Hungarian tennis player overcame the favourite 6:4, 7:6. By the way, the Spaniard found words of appreciation for his conqueror after the defeat to Marozsan.
