No Italian team has ever won in Plzeň before us, Inter coach pleased with three points
Simone Inzaghi is not having an easy time with Inter as they are currently in 6th place in a very balanced Serie A table, but only two points behind. Moreover, they lost all points in the Champions League in the group of death at the beginning, so a win in Plzeň was a must.
Simone Inzaghi is not having an easy time with Inter as they are currently in 6th place in a very balanced Serie A table, but only two points behind. Moreover, they lost all points in the Champions League in the group of death at the beginning, so a win in Plzeň was a must.
Plzen played their second Champions League match after losing 1-5 to Barcelona in the first one. They now face Inter Milan at home, who also lost their first game, 0:2 to Bayern Munich.
“Bayern and Barcelona are currently two of the best teams in the world. That’s why it was important to take home three points. We made a difficult game easier than it actually was,” Inzaghi said in the post-match press conference.
The Italian side started at an active pace right from the start and after a few chances, Correa managed to get through, getting to the whitewash where he was able to find Džeko with a pass, who already managed to beat Stanek.
Inter applied more pressure at the end of the first half when Džeko again showed a good shot. This time, however, his dangerous attempt was caught by Stanek.
The second half started without any changes. The Italian team attacked again and right at the beginning of the half Stanek made some great saves. First he stopped a good header by Gosens, a shot by Škriniar and then he saved Džeko.
After an hour of play, however, Pavel Bucha lost the ball and while trying to get it back, he was fouled. The referee awarded a yellow card, but after consulting the video referee, the colour was changed to red.
“The red card gave us the advantage, but until then we were still dominating and the only thing we couldn’t do was score another goal,” commented the Italian coach on Bucha’s sending off.
Inter then pressed again and finally managed to increase the score when Džeko, this time in a passing role, found Dumfries in front of the whitewash to make it 2-0.
“No Italian team has ever won in Plzeň before, so we are very happy to have won here. All the players were concentrated and did exactly the job they were supposed to do, for which I thank them,” Inzaghi said.
In their next match, Viktoria players will travel to Bayern to try and hold off another European giant. Inter will host Barcelona.
