Niklas Süle returned to Dortmund in great shape after criticism of Hans Flick
German defender Niklas Süle recently found himself at the centre of criticism after coach Hansi Flick did not include him in Germany’s squad for the matches against Ukraine, Poland and Colombia. The reason was his fitness, specifically his overweight. Criticism of Süle came from all sides. However, after his return to Dortmund, the situation changed completely. Süle has returned after the break in excellent form and is ready for the new season.
German defender Niklas Süle recently found himself at the centre of criticism after coach Hansi Flick did not include him in Germany’s squad. The reason was his fitness, specifically his overweight. Criticism of Süle came from all sides. However, after his return to Dortmund, the situation has completely changed. Süle has returned after the break in excellent form and is ready for the new season.
Hansi Flick hinted in his statement that Niklas Süle has a lot of potential, but he still needs to improve. Flick demands that Süle takes a step forward in his attitude and mentality.
This criticism took the public by surprise because Süle was an indispensable player for Borussia Dortmund in the spring, although he often made unnecessary mistakes on the pitch.
Flick’s opinion is shared by DFB sporting director Rudi Völler. He said that Süle has the ability to emulate his performances from the club scene and still has a future in the national team, but it will take time. Both believe Süle has the ambition to make the most of his potential and appear at the domestic Euros.
Although Süle was not included in the German national team, the German national team failed to win any of their friendlies. In the first match they drew with Ukraine 3: 3, in the second match they suffered a defeat by Poland 0: 1 and in the third match came a loss to Colombia 0: 2.
Süle’s return to Dortmund
After Süle returned from his holiday, the results of his performance tests were extremely remarkable. According to the results, he is in better shape than ever before.
Of all the players, Süle passed the most endurance tests. During the summer break he reportedly trained more than the other players and also cycled frequently.
After consulting with Edin Terzic and Sebastian Kehl, Süle received a special training plan. This included cardio, weight training and stabilisation exercises.
Süle, who has racked up 45 starts in a German jersey, last featured for Team Germany at the 2022 World Championships.
