Neymar: Cristiano Ronaldo is spearheading a historic change that is happening in the Saudi Pro League. And everyone thought he was crazy
Cristiano Ronaldo was apparently not wrong when he praised the Saudi Pro League after his transfer. After all, he said it could soon become one of the best leagues in the world. His words are now confirmed by Neymar, who has strengthened the local Al Hilal team.

The massive investment of Saudi clubs in football players could not have escaped anyone. Apart from Chelsea, you will not find another club in the whole football world that would spend more on new reinforcements than Al Hilal.
Cristiano Ronaldo let it be known in a recent interview that the Saudi Pro League can become one of the best leagues in the world. Now Neymar has joined him and has only confirmed his words.
“Ronaldo is the pioneer of the historic change that is now happening in the Saudi Pro League. And everyone thought he was crazy,” Sportskeeda quoted Neymar as saying.
That football is about money is clear. Where would today’s big clubs such as Chelsea, PSG or Manchester City be before the rich owners stepped in and provided the club with huge funds to buy new reinforcements?
Anyone can answer that question, they were floundering in mediocrity and could only dream of the Champions League. But now they rule football in Europe.
After all, the top 4 teams out of the 7 that have spent the most on transfers this summer are all the very clubs that have experienced a big boom in recent years. But of course Arsenal, Manchester United or Tottenham Hotspur don’t have poor owners either.
The Saudi Pro League is still short of the Premier League, with clubs in the English top flight bringing in players for €2.14 billion, while clubs from Saudi Arabia have brought in €636 million.
But even so, that was almost once as much as the Spanish La Liga spent this summer, and only about €10 million more than the German Bundesliga or French Ligue 1.
Clearly, if the wealthy owners of Saudi teams are willing to overpay football stars, the words of Ronaldo or Neymar will soon come true. All the more so if UEFA gives the nod to a deal that would allow Saudi Pro League teams to play in the Champions League.
