Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal is back in action. His long-awaited return will take place at the opening event of the new year in Brisbane, Australia. What are the biggest risks for him in his comeback?
Nadal in Brisbane
The return of the star of tennis heaven has been a long-awaited event. It was given a clear outline in early December. Since then, the comeback of the Spanish tennis player has been definitively linked to Brisbane.
Nadal was absent from the ATP circuit for almost exactly a year. So there was an understandable fall in the rankings. For qualifying for tournaments, the use of a protected ranking for injured players can thus help him.
However, in the case of the tournament in Australia’s third largest city, the 37-year-old tennis player might not use it at all. The organisers gave him a wild card.
But Nadal has to forget about other privileges associated with his position in the upper tiers of the ranking. In Brisbane, of course, he will not be one of the seeded players and a very tough opponent may await him in the first round.
But he basically dominated Brisbane without playing a single game. The very first public event associated with Ndal’s name attracted crowds of fans.
Expert’s concerns
Expert Alex Corretja also commented on the return of the king of clay. For him, this comeback is great news practically no matter what results the Spaniard achieves.
But Nadal is a typical example of the winning type of tennis player. So it is clear that he will do everything he can to be successful and it certainly won’t be easy.
He has been out of top tennis for a long time and his body has become accustomed to the highest possible intensity during long matches. Therefore, according to Nadal’s compatriot, other health problems of the returning tennis player are real.
But Corretja believes that Nadal knows his limits and can enjoy his comeback at his age regardless of the results. At least to a certain extent.
In conclusion..
Another health break for Nadal is definitely not wished for. Let’s hope that Rafa puts in enough worthwhile performances to widen the competition at the already growing head of the ATP peloton.
In the next few hours, the draw in Brisbane will give him his first opponent. Let’s look forward to that and, of course, to Nadal’s return to the courts itself.
