Fourth Premier League hit of the season, fourth game in a row with an accurate hit. Tomas Soucek, with a scar on his forehead, has been rolling one opponent after another, which even his coach David Moyes has appreciated.

Burnley went into the game from last place knowing they needed to finally win for the second time this season in Round 13. The first half wasn’t too exciting, but after the sides changed sides, Jay Rodriguez sent the underdogs into the lead from a penalty.

West Ham couldn’t and didn’t unlock the Clarets’ functioning defence, the key moment coming in the form of substitute Mohamed Kudus. The Ghanaian winger assisted an own goal and then a shot from Tomas Soucek.

David Moyes addressed Kudus’ non-deployment in the starting line-up in his press conference. He sent him on from the bench as he had a tough tour of Africa as part of the November national team reunion.

“It’s difficult because we are trying to find the ideal mix of players and at the same time use those who are fit. And that is exactly the case with Soucek,” Moyes said.

Soucek has hit the club and national team scene in the aggregate for the fourth game in a row. Against Nottingham, he turned the tide from 1:2 to 3:2, and then he made his mark for the national team against Poland and Moldova.

Leaving aside the national team, Soucek is now on six goals. He has scored in all club competitions, four times in the league, adding one hit each in the Europa League and Carabao Cup. Only Jarrod Bowen is a better goalscorer.

“He scored six goals, so individually he has started very well. When I saw the finishing style in scoring goals, that’s what a player in good shooting form looks like,” Moyes continued.

The truth is that in worse form, Soucek might have played a similar ball with his head. This is how he took it from a volley and put it through the goalkeeper. Fourth shot and the fans are tackling Soucek’s ten-goal maximum from 2020/21.

“He’s doing well. He scored around ten goals for us in his first season. If he could do it again this year, it would be great,” Moyes added.
