Mönchengladbach have not been doing well since October, winning only one of their last six games, plus they are out of the League Cup. They dropped to ninth in the table, but are only two points behind the seventh place, which guarantees the European Cup.
Dortmund, on the other hand, are doing well even without injured captain Marco Reus, losing only one of their last seven games and advancing to the Champions League eight-finals. They are sixth in the Bundesliga, just two points clear of second-placed Union Berlin.
Marcus Thuram is firing on the home side, the French striker has netted 12 goals and assisted four times. In defence, long-time mainstay Nico Elvedi, who is not missing from Switzerland’s nomination for the World Cup in Qatar, is doing well.
Visiting midfielder and future England international Jude Bellingham has nine goals and two assists. Nineteen-year-old forward Youssoufa Moukoko has six goals and six assists.
Mönchengladbach are struggling defensively, which is linked to an injury to goalkeeper Yann Sommer. It has scored at least twice in seven of its last eight games, and with 22 goals scored, only Frankfurt and Bremen are worse off in the top half of the table.
Dortmund, on the other hand, relies on defense. It has scored more than once in only one of its last seven games, keeping a clean sheet three of those times. In the competition, only Freiburg and Union Berlin have better defences than Borussia (17 goals conceded).
Considering Dortmund’s excellent defence and the fact that only Thuram is scoring for Mönchengladbach this season, I think the home side will score at most one goal.
