Real Madrid face a Champions League semi-final rematch tonight. Who else should handle the key matches but the most successful team in Europe. Luka Modric describes how the most prestigious club competition suits his team.

5 Champions League trophies in 8 years is an impressive record for Real Madrid. In total, Los Blancos have 14 trophies, no team comes close to that, the second AC Milan has exactly half.

Real have ruled Europe before with nine trophies, but the dynasty of the last few years has shot them completely to the top. It all started with a coveted tenth triumph in 2014, followed by trophies in 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2022.

Even though Real Madrid may not be on ideal form or quality of play, you don’t want to play against them in the Champions League. That’s because experienced players know how to handle key moments and turn around tough games.

“We always feel comfortable in these games. We know that we always play well in the Champions League and it’s a competition that we love. We always play the best in these tough games. That’s why we have won the Champions League so many times, that’s why we believe in ourselves and we believe in our quality. We always give it our best,” Luka Modric said at the press conference.

Until 2016, no team had managed to defend the Champions League even once. It confirmed the rule that defending the trophy is much harder than winning it the first time. But then came Real Madrid.

Under Zinedine Zidane, Los Blancos won three in a row and absolutely dominated Europe. This is what the French coach has done to motivate his players.

“I still remember Zizu playing us videos and his speech about dynasty. We did it and these things give you extra motivation. When you’re so close to another final, you do everything you can and it motivates you to do even more,” said the five-time Champions League winner.
