Me and play for Tottenham? No, thank you. See how Thierry Henry reacted to being asked about a Spurs deal

Thierry Henry is a supporter of Arsenal London, as indeed he should be. However, on Wednesday he was a guest in the CBC Sports studio for a Champions League match, with Kate Abdo asking him if he could ever play for big rivals Tottenham Hotspur. And what his response was, you simply have to see.

Henry is undoubtedly an Arsenal legend. After all, his career, as far as the Premier League is concerned, has only been associated with this London club.

He joined Arsenal on August 3, 1999 from Juventus, wearing the jersey until the summer of 2007, when he moved to Barcelona. Towards the end of his career, he did return to the Emirates Stadium, but logically he did not perform as well as he did in his prime.

In total, he played 376 games for Arsenal across all competitions, scoring 228 goals and assisting a further 103.

And last but not least – Henry won two championship titles for the Canaries, won the FA Cup three times, and was twice named Player of the Year.

His answer to reporter Kate Abdo’s question is more than logical. She asked him if he would ever play for one of Arsenal’s biggest rivals, Tottenham Hotspur. And his response is simply a must-see.

“Could you ever play for Spurs?” she asked Abdo Henry. The former France international didn’t really need to say, as his expression was worth it.

“Oh, please. Look, I’m leaving. No, joking aside – well, actually, I wasn’t joking in this case – I had the opportunity, but I declined. I could have gone to another club for triple the salary,” Henry revealed, with the whole studio surprised at what he was talking about.

Jamie Carragher was then asked if Tottenham had expressed their interest, followed by Manchester United guessing. However, Henry wouldn’t reveal which club would be willing to pay that kind of money for him at the time.

“No, I won’t tell you anything. You can say anything (ask any club – ed.) but I will always say no,” Henry concluded.
