Erik ten Hag is well aware that he needs more reinforcements. It’s just that the market for players that clubs let go is getting smaller and smaller. Even here, there is speculation in the media almost every hour about new and new players who could strengthen Manchester United. However, one of them is more than interesting!

Lisandro Martínez, Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen are the three reinforcements that Manchester United have made this transfer window. However, as the predecessor ten Haga said, at least 7-10 new players have to come to Old Trafford for the management to think about some solid positioning worthy of this club.

Ralf Rangnick has been very clear on this and the opening days of the new season are absolutely proving him right, with the club under tremendous fire from fans and media while the competition laughs.

However, Manchester United still have time to make amends and there are still options available to the Dutch coach that could significantly improve the quality and competitiveness of the team.

Sergej Milinković-Savić

Ten Hag wanted his prodigal son, but Frenkie de Jong refuses to leave Barcelona, even though he might sue his current employer over a contract he only recently signed.

The need to bring in a midfielder seems to be an absolute necessity after the departure of Paul Pogba, as the opening game against Brighton showed. However, after several possible candidates being speculated in the media, there is one that has already been pursued by Jose Mourinho.

However, in 2018, Lazio demanded around €100 million for the Serbian midfielder and now he could be up for grabs for €68 million. According to Corriere dello Sport, negotiations should have already taken place, during which Manchester United offered 50 million. However, the Italian outfit are reportedly willing to let their gem leave for 65 million.

The player himself would apparently be in favour of a move to Old Trafford, making him an interesting alternative to the lost options that the Hag had. Moreover, we are talking about an already experienced footballer who has played 294 games in a Lazio jersey, scoring 58 goals and assisting on another 51.

Milinkovic-Savic may not be a speedster, but apart from that he has no weaknesses, he is tenacious, strong and tough. Moreover, he is a player who practically doesn’t care whether he plays right (stronger leg) or left. In short, he is a fighter who could elevate the centre of midfield, and one of the few quality players who would transfer to Old Trafford.

After many great footballers have slipped through Manchester United’s fingers, €65 million for Milinkovic-Savic is certainly not a high amount, even more so when looking at several transfers in the past.

Morgan Schneiderlin 15/16 – €35m, Henrikh Mkhitaryan 16/17 – €42m, Nemanja Matic 17/18 – €45m, Fred 18/19 – €59m, Aaron Wan-Bissaka 19/20 – €55m, Donny van de Beek 20/21 – €39m.
