According to Fabrizio Romano, it’s almost done. James Maddison will move to Tottenham after Leicester’s relegation from the English top flight, where he will begin a new chapter in his football career. What are the details of his transfer?

Maddison has been highly rated for a long time and it was he, in particular, who long held Leicester’s hopes of salvation in the Premier League. However, that was ultimately not enough and neither were his 10 league goals and 9 assists.

After Leicester’s relegation from the English top flight, it was virtually certain that Maddison would leave the club and head elsewhere.

Several Premier League clubs were interested in his services, with speculation about his potential departure to Manchester United, Newcastle or Tottenham.

The twenty-six year old offensive midfielder was highly sought after by The Magpies coach Eddie Howe, who is rebuilding Newcastle from the ground up. And as a result of qualifying for the Champions League, he needs a wide and quality squad.

Maddison, however, seems to have chosen Tottenham, a side that will not be playing European Cups next season.

As already reported by the well-known and trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham have reached an agreement with his current employer, with the transfer fee expected to be £40 million. Maddison has also agreed personal terms, with transfer negotiations heading into the final stages.

Maddison at Leicester…

The Coventry native transferred to Leicester at the start of the summer of 2018, from Norwich for €25m. Maddison enjoyed a title-winning season in 2021, with The Foxes also winning the Community Shield winner’s trophy last year.

In that time, Maddison has played 203 games in a Leicester jersey, scoring 55 goals and assisting on 41 others.
