Lukaku is not going to Saudi Arabia. But what happens to him next? Inter is on the move
Romelu Lukaku did not challenge several of his former teammates and decided to remain in Europe after turning down lucrative offers from wealthy clubs in Saudi Arabia. Inter Milan are now on the move and will most likely hold talks with Chelsea over the player’s future.
Romelu Lukaku did not challenge several of his former teammates and decided to remain in Europe after turning down lucrative offers from wealthy clubs in Saudi Arabia. Inter Milan are now on the move and will most likely hold talks with Chelsea over the player’s future.
It was not a good move for Chelsea when they bought Lukaku for €113 million from Inter in the summer of 2021. After scoring 8 league goals, it sent him back to Italy when Inter offered the London outfit just under €8 million for a one-year loan deal.
However, the Belgian striker was plagued by injuries, but still managed to score 10 goals in 25 league games and assisted 6 more.
He came into form especially at the end of the season, scoring 11 points in his last 7 league games.
Now comes the time when Inter will have to negotiate with Chelsea again if they want Lukaku in their team again. Moreover, the question remains whether Mauricio Pochettino has plans for him.
Adding to all of this are the clubs from Saudi Arabia, specifically Al-Hilal, who were reportedly the most interested and have decided to invest massively in star players to significantly increase the quality of the Saudi Premier League there. However, the Belgian will not go in that direction, at least for now, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The question remains, however, whether Inter will be willing to pay a considerable amount for the 30-year-old striker, as Chelsea cannot be counted on to give the nod for another loan move, which logically would not make much sense for them.
In addition, Simone Inzaghi has Edin Džeko, 37, and Lautaro Martínez in the attack, but other leading European clubs are interested in him and his departure is not at all out of the question.
If the Argentine striker were to leave after all, one can assume that Inter would do anything to have Lukaku in their lineup for next season.
