Lucie Pudilova trains in Conor McGregor’s gym
This Saturday we are waiting for the Oktagon 31 gala in the O2 hall in Prague, where the main card will open with the women’s fight Pudilova vs. De Souza. Will the training with the world-famous coach be reflected in the fight itself?
This Saturday we are waiting for the Oktagon 31 gala in the O2 hall in Prague, where the main card will open with the women’s fight Pudilova vs. De Souza. Will the training with the world-famous coach be reflected in the fight itself?
Lucie Pudilova, who was the first Czech woman to taste the waters of the biggest organization in the world UFC, tried to light a new fire in John Kavanagh’s Straight Blast Gym. He trains the biggest UFC star Conor McGregor.
Pudilova in the Octagon
After her stint in the UFC, where Pudilova had seven fights with a 2-5 record, she got the nod from the biggest domestic MMA organization, Oktagon. Since the beginning of her time in the Octagon, she has shown that she is a force to be reckoned with.
But after three consecutive wins came a loss on points to another UFC fighter, Bernardo. She was not a good match for Pudilova’s ground fighting style. But Lucie got back on the winning streak in her last fight against Polish Waliczek and claimed a title fight with Lucie Szabová, a rising star of Czechoslovak MMA.
The promoters of Oktagon have not yet granted Pudilova’s request, but in the event of a win at Saturday’s Oktagon 31, that option could take a realistic form. Standing in her way of a title fight, however, is the erratic Brazilian Priscila de Souza, who excels especially on the ground. It will be interesting to see how Lucie handles her opponent.
Pudilova trains at Conor McGregor’s gym
Pudilova is trying to improve her ground fighting skills in John Kavanagh’s Irish gym. “In the new gym I train mainly wrestling and BJJ, I feel really great progress and I want to show it against an opponent who has a black belt,” she hinted at her new training methods in a new video on the Oktagon MMA YouTube channel.
“Lucie is getting better every day, she has a great mind set,” world renowned coach Kavanagh spoke about her progression. “She’s like a sponge, always wanting to know something new, to learn something. Sometimes I have to keep her a little bit short, but that’s a nice worry,” he praised his work with the Czech fighter.
Ondřej Novotný offered a possible course of her fight at Oktagon 31
Oktagon promoter Ondřej Novotný tried to predict how the fight will go in his MMA Flight Around the World podcast. “I would expect Lucie to want to take it to the ground now,” he says of the possible course of the fight.
“But when you’ve been learning something your whole life and you’re trying to perfect it, she wouldn’t want to apply all the things she’s newly learned now,” Novotny alluded to her new home in the McGregor Gym. “She might endup paying for that, too,” he expressed concern over Pudilova, who is known for her solid attitude.
We’ll find out how the fight turns out this Saturday. Fingers crossed for the Czech fighter.
