Losing Haaland is a disaster? No, Dortmund was strengthened. For what reason?
If you read just the headline, you might think we’re crazy. How could the departure of a player who scored 83 goals in 87 games help the team? But in the case of Erling Haaland’s departure and Borussia Dortmund’s cleverness, it really could.

Of course, Dortmund won’t be helped by Haaland’s departure per se. However, these are steps that the management has subsequently taken. After all, they will get around €65 million for their gem and if they blindly invest it in one player, they will hardly replace Haaland and his departure will be a huge loss.
But Borussia are doing well in the transfer market. It has brought in two German international defenders, stoppers Niclas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck.
The experienced 26 year old Bayern stopper comes completely free after his contract expires and will be an immediate boost. The 22 year old Schlotterbeck is one of the brightest young talents in Germany and cost a reasonable 20 million euros. The 191 centimetre tall stopper scored 4 goals for Freiburg last season and also made the German national team. Süle needs no introduction.
Borussia have brought in Salih Özcan from Cologne as a defensive midfielder. In addition, they paid only 5 million euros for the highly rated 24-year-old midfielder.
And the best part, one of the most desired football talents, Karim Adeyemi, came from Salzburg. The 20-year-old already has 4 starts and 1 goal for the German national team, BVB will pay 30 million euros for him.
And the icing on the cake, a direct replacement for Haaland should arrive, Sebastien Haller, who had a great season at Ajax, where he netted 11 goals in the Champions League and added 21 more in the Eredivisie. Dortmund are expected to pay 31 million euros for him.
Borussia have thus strengthened every position thanks to Haaland’s departure. Of course, Haaland was an extraordinary and unstoppable goal scorer, but despite his goals, the defence was often haphazard and this cost Dortmund important points on several occasions. That shouldn’t happen anymore with new signings in the defensive line.
Plus Haaland was injured enough last season and BVB had to do without him anyway. They invested the money for the Norwegian goal scorer in the squad in a great way and they go into the new season without Haaland, but with a much stronger squad as a whole. And that’s what wins titles. Can Dortmund finally stop Bayern’s domination?
