Liverpool won the FA Cup at the weekend, beating Chelsea on penalties. At the same time, however, the trophy had major casualties as main stars Mohamed Salah and Virgil Van Dijk had to be substituted due to injury.
Salah and Fabinho have been troubled by a muscle problem, while Van Dijk has a knee problem. Neither of the trio started Tuesday’s game against Southampton, which is not ideal news 10 days before the final.
But Reds fans need not worry, according to Klopp, all three will be ready for the duel with Real Madrid. Fabinho’s situation is going very well according to the German coach, but he will not take the field until the final.
Salah and Van Dijk could even get some minutes in the last league game against Wolves. So they will be ready for the final in Paris, unless of course their injuries recur.
And what if these key players are not available after all? At stopper, Van Dijk would be replaced by Konaté – Matip, instead of Fabinho, Henderson and Thiago Keita would be joined by Diaz and Mané, and Diogo Jota would be replaced by Salah.
However, none of this is likely to be needed and we should see both teams with loaded lineups. So nothing should stand in the way of a thrilling final between two of Europe’s best teams this season.
