On Thursday, Sparta Prague will play at the famous Anfield. Its chances of promotion are slim, but Liverpool will want to at least trouble them. But Jürgen Klopp says he is ready for that. What did the German coach reveal ahead of the rematch?

Two games, nine goals conceded, only one scored. After the elimination of Galatasaray Istanbul, the turnaround against Slavia and the subsequent goalless draw in the second Prague derby in quick succession, it was a week of horror for Sparta.

They challenged Liverpool in the Europa League semi-finals and wanted a fair fight. The result? A 1:5 defeat, but for their courage and performance, Sparta earned respect and applause. Converting chances, it could have been much more even. And not to make mistakes, it could have been a better result.

Afterwards, the Prague team travelled to Pilsen, where they faced Viktoria in a league match. However, Sparta took home a debacle. Miroslav Koubek’s charges won 4:0 and coach Brian Priske in particular came under fire.

Now the team has another big game ahead of them. They will travel to England, where they will try to beat Liverpool in a rematch. Nothing is impossible, but even the biggest optimists are no longer counting on promotion. But the Reds remain cautious.

Liverpool are not going to underestimate the rematch

Jürgen Klopp is in his final season at Anfield. He wants Liverpool to win everything they can. The plan is for a spectacular farewell season. They’ve already won the Carabao Cup, still hold the lead in the Premier League, and the FA Cup is in play along with the Europa League.

Accordingly, the Reds intend to approach the rematch. Underestimation is not an option. Especially with the realisation that Sparta won’t just be going to England for a trip.

“I can see that Sparta want to put things right. We have to play really good football. It’s our home game, our stadium, our competition. We want to make it our competition from day one. We want to go as far as we can,” Klopp was heard saying at the press conference.

We’ll find out how the match turns out on Thursday night. The match kicks off at 21:00.
