Liverpool won their Premier League match at Craven Cottage on Sunday, leapfrogging Manchester City in the table after a 3-1 win over Fulham. The goals were scored by Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota, with Timothy Castagne on the other side.
Liverpool had a great chance in the third minute, but Luis Díaz sent a header just wide of the left post. The Reds’ good start to the game continued with a few more touches, but then the action on the pitch evened out.
Then the poor offensive form of the whole team showed twice. Diogo Jota, in a scoring chance, only hit his other foot. A few minutes later Harvey Elliot, from a direct kick, hit the ball weakly only to the bottom of the wall.
In the 32nd minute, the visitors enjoyed a similar position as Trent Alexander-Arnold cleared the left post. And three minutes later, it could have been even worse for Fulham as another goalbound shot was reflexively cleared by Bernd Leno.
Fulham then got back into the game, but Rodrigo Muniz’s first promising chance was saved by Alisson Becker. However, the Brazilian goalkeeper was already short of another player in the set-up, as Belgian Timothy Castagne headed over from the left post.
Liverpool confirmed their 3 points in the second half
After the change of sides, Elliot shot again, a ground shot missed the area of the goal at all. But it was a different story in the 54th minute, when Ryan Gravenberch leaned on the ball behind the whitewash and put the ball over the right post, giving Leno no chance.
And the Reds’ pressure didn’t stop there. More promising chances were thrown away by Jota and a Cody Gakpo double. In the 72nd minute, Portugal’s Jota celebrated when he was lucky to put Len through. His cross was also offside.
In the 89th minute, goalkeeper Becker still had to make a great save, but Muniz’s follow-up shot hit the bar. Liverpool thus caught up with Arsenal at the top of the table after a 3-1 win, while third-placed Manchester City is two points behind. Fulham are in 12th place.
