Liverpool pre-season: A new start after Klopp and also a new system
Liverpool were shocked by the unexpected news of Jürgen Klopp’s departure last season. The German strategist has been replaced on the Reds bench by Arne Slot, who will be under constant scrutiny from the media and experts alike. The team from Anfield is thus starting a new era and fans are worried that it will not turn out like Manchester United, which is still struggling with itself after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

- Liverpool go into the new Premier League season with a new coach and a new system
- Arne Slot takes over from Jürgen Klopp
- The Anfield club has not bought a single signing so far
As usual, the German coach’s entire implementation team has ended with him. Slot has thus brought in Sipek Hulshoff and former Dutch defender Johnny Heitinga as assistant coaches.
Another change took place in the position of goalkeeper coach and video analyst of the opponents. Replacing Klopp in the wobbly chair won’t be easy, but the Dutchman will give it a try with his 4-2-3-1 system.
Defence
If there was anything that was scratchy in last year’s line-up, it was the defence. Countless goals conceded took Liverpool’s chance to fight for the title into the final rounds. However, the leader of the defence will be none other than Virgil van Dijk.
the 33-year-old defender is the captain of the team from Anfield and it is he who gives out instructions in the back of the pitch. Along with his performances, the chances of the opponents to score goals rise and fall.
Ibrahima Konaté is likely to start alongside van Dijk, provided he is healthy. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson are likely to appear on the flanks. With the former, it’s important that Slot finds a balance between his attacking appetites and defensive play.
Backup
As The Reds are not going into any frantic signings so far, the coaching staff has to make do with what is left of Klopp.
Wataru Endo is available at the number six position, but he received countless red cards last season. Alexis Mac Allister or Ryan Graverberch can play alongside him, with the Argentine having the upper hand in this battle at the moment.
With the transition to the new system, there is an opportunity to use Dominik Szoboszlai at number ten. That is, the position where the Hungarian likes to play the most. Last season he scored 7 goals and 4 assists from deep in the midfield. If he really steps up closer to the opponent’s goal, we can expect an increase in offensive numbers.
Offense
The only change is the departure of Fabio Carvalho, otherwise the lineup remains the same. Mohamed Salah operates on the right side, Diogo Jota will very likely play on the left, although Cody Gakpo had an incredible European championship and we must not forget Luis Diaz. Then Darwin Nunez will start at the very top.
The alpha and omega will be converting chances. If Liverpool stop wasting huge opportunities, they can think about putting pressure on Manchester City and Arsenal.
It will also be interesting to watch Salah, the Egyptian’s performance has declined somewhat and next season will show if this was an exception or really the beginning of the Egyptian icon’s decline.
Liverpool’s likely line-up:
Allison
Alexander-Arnold – van Dijk – Konaté – Robertson
Endo – Mac Allister
Salah – Szoboszlai – Jota
Núñez
