Preparations for the new era are in full swing. Liverpool are experiencing their final season under Jürgen Klopp and must respond. So there will be big changes in the club’s management and some new names will be heading to Anfield. One of the newcomers is set to be Richard Hughes.

Liverpool are entering a new era

Liverpool are still waking up from the unexpected announcement that popular coach Jürgen Klopp went public with at the end of January. That is because he will leave the club after the season and a new era will begin at Anfield.

Fans are understandably worried about what kind of era that will be. Before the German coach arrived, the club had long looked mainly at how the biggest rivals fight for trophies. Under his leadership, they then broke a 30-year wait for the title, winning the Champions League as well.

A return to the days when the Reds looked at the backs of their arch rivals is certainly not something anyone at the club wants. That’s why the management is trying to prepare for the new era as best as possible.

The first step, according to talkSPORT, will be the introduction of a new sporting director. This is to be Richard Hughes, who currently holds the position at Bournemouth. He is expected to move to Anfield in the summer.

Hughes as new key figure

It’s worth noting that Hughes assisted the likes of Eddie Howe at Bournemouth. Overall, he has been at the club since 2014. The way he has performed has seen him promoted all the way to technical director.

Equally, it’s worth mentioning that Liverpool have been operating without a sporting director since the summer. Julian Ward has left the club. Since then, Jordi Schmadtke has been helping Klopp with transfers.

Hughes wants to bring Michael Edwards to the club. He is one of the Reds’ former sporting directors. He is now set to return to Anfield, but this time as CEO.

Liverpool are counting on Hughes to play a key role in ushering in a new era for the club. He is expected to work closely with Michael Edwards.
