The Premier League is back after the national break. The programme of the fifth round opened on Saturday afternoon with a duel between the third team in the table and the fifteenth one. Wolverhampton at home did not keep the lead from the first half, after the turnaround Liverpool celebrates. The match ended with a score of 1:3.

The Reds had to do without Virgil van Dijk, who missed the game at Molineux Stadium due to a red card penalty, and the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold. The opening whistle was preceded by a minute’s silence in memory of the victims of the earthquake in Morocco.

The home side surprisingly took the lead in the seventh minute. Pedro Neto broke through the opposing defenders on the left side of the big box and crossed a small pass to Hwang Hichan. The South Korean striker scored for the third time this season, with Alisson intercepting the ball just over the goal line.

The Portuguese, who assisted the opening goal, found himself in an interesting shooting position late in the opening 20 minutes. But from outside the box, he headed just wide of the Liverpool goal.

The visitors dominated the possession statistics, but it didn’t lead to any chances. In addition, they had to watch for quick breaks or Wolverhampton corners. Klopp’s defensive unit had the biggest problems with the aforementioned Neto, who, for example, in the 34th minute, challenged Cunha to finish with a successful centre from the left. However, he did not shoot from close range at all.

When the team from Anfield did get to threaten their rival’s goal, they were brought down by inaccurate finishing. Liverpool came closest to equalising in the first half. However, neither Mohamed Salah nor Dominik Szoboszlai took advantage of the penalty area. The teams therefore went into the half-time break with a 1:0 scoreline.

Second half

Before the second half, the favourite, whose performance was probably affected by the fatigue of the players from the national team, made a substitution. Alexis Mac Allister was replaced by Luis Díaz.

He was able to make a significant impact on the game after only one minute on the pitch. Robertson didn’t even process the long-range pass and immediately centred into the box to the Colombian footballer. However, his header did not go between the three posts.

In the 55th minute, the Reds equalised at 1-1. Cody Gakpo was at the end of a good combination and calmly cleared the ball into the net before passing the ball to Darwin Núñez. Assisted by Salah.

A quarter of an hour later, Uruguayan Núñez found himself free in front of the Wolves goalkeeper after a pass from Díaz. However, José Sá stood his ground and made an important save to keep his side in it.

The visitors were the better team in the second half and struck the winning blow in the 85th minute. Salah crossed the ball behind the defence to Andy Robertson, who beat the Portuguese goalkeeper in his 200th game for Liverpool in the top flight.

The final score of 1:3 was then decided by a low shot with a rebound off the right post from substitute Harvey Elliott at the start of stoppage time. The goal was subsequently confirmed by VAR, but the goal was flagged as an own goal by the crossing Hugo Bueno.

The participant of the regular group of this year’s Europa League won for the third time in a row and with the gain of thirteen points, they moved at least temporarily to the first place of the Premier League. Manchester City, who face West Ham at 4pm, have one point less.
