Leverkusen have picked up incredibly under Xabi Alonso and their form has improved even more after bringing in a number of reinforcements in the summer transfer window. Unfortunately for Czech fans, it’s not with the help of Czech legionnaires.

Often clubs do well at the start of the season because they have an easy draw, but Bayer started the league season with RB Leipzig and Monchengladbach. Both of those games were three points apiece, scoring three goals in each.

Coach Alonso’s charges also managed to win the following game against Darmstadt and only lost points last weekend in a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich.

Even better was their opening game in the DFB-Pokal against Teutonia, who swept Leverkusen 8:0. Adam Hložek also contributed to the victory, playing only 20 minutes but scoring two goals and adding an assist.

The German side also made a successful entry into the Europa League, beating Hacken 4-0 on Thursday. So everything looks perfect and Leverkusen is heading very high!

Especially Patrik Schick’s biggest rival Victor Bonifacio, who arrived in the summer for less than 21 million euros from Union SG, is doing well and has six goals and three assists in six games.

Florian Wirtz is also in great form after an injury, while reinforcement Jonas Hofmann is also playing in great form at 31 years of age, leaving little room on the pitch for Adam Hložek, who has played only 20 minutes in 4 league games.

Schick’s return to the pitch will probably be even more difficult then. On the other hand, both Boniface and Wirtz can be expected to be scouted in detail by the Eropean big clubs and nobody could be surprised if they both head elsewhere next summer.

However, we’ll have to see if all of the aforementioned stay in shape and, most importantly, in good health. Leverkusen, however, look very good and can be expected to finish interestingly in both the Bundesliga and the cups.
