Elseid Hysaj became a new signing for Lazio Rome in the summer. As it happens at club level, he had to introduce himself by singing a song. And his choice was obviously not entirely in line with the fans’ sentiments.

Lazio Rome fans are notoriously political. But not the positive ones, quite the opposite. They are called fascists in some places, Nazis in others.

Either way, Lazio fans are often linked to racism or discrimination against women. In short, nothing to brag about.

Vedat Muriqi, for example, who joined the club in the summer of 2020, knows all about it. The Kosovo international makes no secret of his political views, which are certainly not in line with those of Lazio fans, and he has been insulted during matches.

And now Elseid Hysaj has found out. The Albanian defender transferred to Lazio in the summer. When he had to present himself by singing a song, he chose the famous “Bella Ciao”.

What’s so bad about that? Between 1943 and 1945, Italian partisans considered it the anthem of the anti-fascist resistance.

Many fans immediately wanted to meet the player in person. The ultras even visited the restaurant where the team was staying. But to no avail, the team had already left the restaurant. So Hysaj met the fans outside the hotel, with a group of police officers supervising everything.

Maurizio Sarri, Lazio’s new coach, was not happy. He doesn’t want the fans to disturb his charges in any way. He is aware of the negative impact such situations can have on players.

However, it should be mentioned that Hysaj has received praise from some supporters. This is because some individuals do not wish to be associated with extremism and are happy that in this way the players can change how the club is perceived by the footballing public.
