The current season of the London Blues is more like a horror movie. New management, almost 700 million euros in reinforcements and 3 different coaches in a short period of time, all these factors obviously do not lead to a happy ending. Current coach Frank Lampard has spoken openly about the problems for the first time.
Lampard has taken the Chelsea hot seat for the second time in his coaching career, but this time he is only counted on for the rest of the season. The former England international is now the team’s third coach in one season! At least in this statistic this year, Chelsea is unique.
He came to Stamford Bridge with the aim of bringing back the team spirit and, most importantly, the passion for the game. The latter was definitely missing in the squad, judging by the picture of the last few weeks. However, according to Lampard, the lack of motivation and confidence is not the main cause of the crisis.
“I can feel from the players that as Chelsea players they are still hungry for success,” he added. The club icon is of the opinion that he has taken over from Graham Potter with a squad that is definitely not at its peak of fitness and readiness.
“Until now, more matches were verbally dissected and tactical preparation was done, with frequent group meetings. But the problem is that in these activities the players have slowly spent more time in the conference rooms than on the pitch itself!”
The training units were said to have been rather banal and, according to Lampard, not of a very high standard. So when he gets the chance, the English legend intends to change that.
“When you play at this level, your squad has to reach the limits of physical readiness. We’re a long way from that at the moment. It doesn’t matter how we get there, the important thing is to address the situation urgently,” added the current Blues coach.
For the fans and the entire implementation team, these are not very positive and flattering words, but the truth probably had to be faced.
