Women’s football is not very popular in the domestic environment. The league is not professional, even female players from the best teams often have to earn extra money. However, the female representatives would be happy if their sport started to be taken seriously, which they said in an interview with ČT Sport.

Women’s football was widely discussed in the Czech Republic last week after the Příbram football club shared a video of what the men’s team players thought of women’s football.

The response to the video has not been good and several well-known personalities have spoken out against it. The video was taken down, after which many more made fun of it.

But the truth is that in the Czech Republic, female footballers still don’t have respect and many don’t take them seriously. But one of the reasons could be that they have not yet been seen in any final tournament.

“We have to achieve what we have been after all along, which is to get to a championship. And then maybe we can also make the public perceive us a little differently,” said Spartan Petra Bertholdová in an interview with CT Sport.

But Czech women footballers are already playing in world teams. Andrea Stašková plays for Juventus, Barbora Votíková for PSG, Klára Cahynová for Sevilla and Kateřina Svitková for West Ham.

“Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that. Most of the time they just look at the fact that these girls should do some other sport. And that’s what makes me sad, that we don’t look at the success and we always look for the negative things,” Cahynova added.
