Květa Peschkeová is one of the greatest Czech tennis stalwarts. But now the former world number one in doubles has reportedly decided to end her rich career, at least on the WTA circuit. The news was announced on social media by journalist Nick McCarvel and photographer Rob Prange. The player herself has not yet commented on the information.

The native of Bílovec has been gaining success mainly in doubles during her career. In the 2011 season, when she enjoyed six tournament titles, she won Wimbledon alongside Slovenia’s Katarina Srebotnikova.

In July of that year, she rose to the top of the doubles rankings and four months later helped the Czechs to victory over the Russians in the Fed Cup final.

In her career, she has taken a total of 36 doubles titles at WTA tournaments, with another eight at ITF level. In classic doubles, she has played in the final three times at the Tournament of Champions, once at Roland Garros, plus semi-final appearances at Grand Slams in Australia and the USA.

She has also dedicated herself to the mix, but despite making three finals at the US Open, she has never won the winner’s trophy.

26. her 2005 runner-up finish is her highest singles ranking. In that event, she won one title on the most prestigious circuit, namely at the 1998 Makarska International Championships while still under her maiden name of Hrdličková. Ten times she dominated singles at ITF tournaments.

Peschke’s last appearance in doubles was on green clay in Charleston. There, she and Slovakian Tereza Mihalikova lost to Anna Danilinova and Alyaksandra Sasnovich 3:6, 3:6 in the first round. According to Nick McCarvel and Rob Prange, it was the dernier of the forty-six-year-old Czech on the WTA professional circuit.

Květa Peschkeová, who earned more than six million dollars during her career, has not yet confirmed or denied her demise. This is also because she is not active on social networks and does not communicate with her fans through them.

It is also possible that she intends to play only ITF matches anymore, or possibly show up at one of the upcoming Grand Slams. The Czech BJKC Team has already thanked her for her career on their Facebook profile.

If the news about the end of her career is confirmed, it would be a departure from the top tennis scene by another excellent Czech doubles player in a short time. Over the last three years, Andrea Sestini Hlaváčková, Lucie Šafářová and last year Barbora Strýcová have all said goodbye to the professional courts.
