MMA is experiencing an unprecedented boom not only on the domestic scene

A new era is beginning for Czechoslovak MMA today. The leading Czechoslovak organization Oktagon is entering the German market with today’s Oktagon 33 tournament, something few could have imagined just a few years ago.

Of course, the increasing interest in combat sports benefits all fighters, who are finally receiving sufficient financial compensation for practicing the risky sport. MMA in particular is slowly catching up with football and hockey, which have been the number one sports in our country for a long time.

One of the fighters who contributed most to the development of MMA in our country is certainly Karlos “Terminator” Vémola. Some love him, others hate him. But we can’t deny that he attracts attention and attracts more fans to combat sports.

Vémola assesses the development of MMA and makes big plans

Vémola was a guest on REFRESHER, where he evaluated the development of mixed martial arts in recent years and outlined his future plans. “We have managed to take the sport to a huge level, ” he responded enthusiastically.

“When I came back from America and England, we sold out the Top Hotel and everybody patted us on the back for never having been here,” Vémola recalled his return to the Czech Republic. “I told them it wouldn’t take long and we would fight in hockey stadiums, ” he saw the potential of combat sports even then.

“Everyone said I was crazy,” were the reactions of those around him. “Then I said, let’s go to the O2 arena, and again everyone laughed at me that Karel Gott was selling out the O2 arena and not some Karel from Olomouc,” he reacted to the fact that in the Match of the Century between him and Attila Vegh the O2 arena was sold out to the last seat.

“Before I finish my career, I want to fight like Muhhamad Ali in the open air, and I don’t mean in Svanica,” he said. “I want to fight in a football stadium, maybe one day I will finish my career at Slavia,” he added, saying that some negotiations are already underway.

Ondřej Novotný, promoter and owner of the Oktagon organization, has expressed his pessimism about galas in football stadiums, especially because of the weather. ” I will not retire before I wrestle in a football stadium, ” Vémola is clear.
