Kalvin Phillips is the new signing for Manchester City. It’s the best team in the country, enthuses the midfielder
Manchester City have announced the signing of Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United on a six-year deal. Phillips, who has spent his entire career at Leeds, is a replacement for Fernandinho. The Premier League champions have agreed a £45 million transfer fee with Leeds.
Manchester City have confirmed the arrival of Kalvin Phillips from Leeds. The England midfielder has arrived on a six-year deal worth £45m.
The England midfielder is the third arrival at the Etihad this summer following the £51million transfer of Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund and the free transfer of goalkeeper Stefan Ortega.
The 26-year-old, who leaves his native Leeds after eight seasons, will wear the number 4 jersey at the Etihad.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining Manchester City,” Phillips said of his transfer.
“City have proved once again that they are the best team in the country, they have an amazing squad and a manager in Pep Guardiola who is rightly regarded as the best in the world, ” adds the new Citizens acquisition.
“The opportunity to play under Pep, to learn from him and his coaching staff and to be part of such a fantastic team is a prospect that I am incredibly excited about.“
On Monday, City also announced the £45million departure of Gabriel Jesus to Arsenal, where he has agreed a five-year deal.
Phillips has been at Leeds since he was 14 and has appeared in 235 games for the club, scoring 14 goals. He was also an integral part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad that reached the final of Euro 2020 last year.
