Conference league
It’s official, the FAČR is in the running to host the Conference Finals! Who’s against it?
Petr Fousek, the chairman of the Football Association, has hinted in the recent past that a similar option is on the table. And now it is a completely official matter. The Czech Republic, led by the FAČR, could theoretically host the final of the European Conference League.
Petr Fousek, chairman of the Football Association, has hinted in the recent past that a similar option is on the table. And now it is a completely official matter. The Czech Republic, led by the FAČR, could theoretically host the final of the European Conference League.
However, there is one big but in the whole matter for now. Several football federations from several European countries are interested in hosting the final match of the weakest European competition in 2023.
UEFA will therefore have to decide in the coming months which country and city is most deserving of hosting the match.
With the events that have stirred emotions in Western Europe over the Prague “S”, the Czech Republic’s chances are somewhat slimmer. However, UEFA should of course evaluate the whole process completely independently of the Prague clubs.
It would be a big plus if UEFA found the behaviour of the children’s fans at Letná to be unproblematic.
The FAČR’s opponents are: Cyprus, Greece, Northern Ireland, Slovakia and Israel. The Conference League final would be played in Eden in Prague. The stadium has a capacity of 20,800 spectators.
Although it is the lowest performing competition, attractive teams can still make it to the final. For example, Tottenham and AS Roma are playing in the first edition of the competition this year. In addition, the spring season will see the addition of teams finishing third in the Europa League group.
