The current manager of the American team D.C. United may soon try his luck in the boxing ring. British youtuber, rapper and boxer Olatunji, better known by his nickname KSI, said during a press conference that he has not accepted an offer for a fight from the former England footballer. Still, he hinted at who Rooney could face.
Wayne Rooney is a boxing fan and even trained as a youth himself. He attracted the attention of fans of the combat sport when he made his latest comments about Tyson Fury after his fight with Dereck Chisora.
Rooney told radio station Talksport: “I don’t think we’ve seen anyone better than him (Tyson Fury) in a long time. He’s an absolute legend for what he’s done for boxing. If I’m honest, I think he should be knighted.”
The boxer known as the Gypsy King was quick to respond and offered the Manchester United legend a pairing. “Wayne is a true legend. Hopefully I can pair up with him at some point in the future, I need someone smaller to prepare for Usyk,” joked Fury.
A fight under the English Misfits organization?
Rooney was clearly intrigued by the offer to test his boxing skills and even decided to challenge the British influencer known as “KSI“.
KSI is gearing up for his next boxing match, which will pit him against MMA fighter Dillon Danis. He held a pre-fight press conference on Thursday, in which Rooney’s name came up.
“It’s funny, I hope he doesn’t mind me saying that. But Rooney texted me and said we’re going to have a fight. I told him no, I don’t want this. Of course if he was interested, I think it would be good to have him here,” he told KSI.
The British influencer is in fact the chief executive officer (CEO) of Misfits, an organisation that arranges boxing fights, and apparently he wouldn’t mind Rooney fighting under his company. He even suggested a possible opponent.
“I know that even Wayne Bridge (former Chelsea defender) is interested in the possibility of a fight, ” KSI said. It’s true that a clash between the two former footballers could attract attention, but whether a showdown will actually happen, we’ll have to wait and see.
