The Czech Republic will play a crucial World Cup qualifying match on Friday, welcoming Wales at home. What did head coach Jaroslav Šilhavý say at the pre-match conference?

The national team and especially Slavia were disturbed by the news from Thursday’s training session regarding the injury of Tomáš Holeš. It shouldn’t be anything serious, which is what Šilhavý hopes for, as he was probably counting on the experienced all-rounder on the right side of the defence.

“We have slight health problems in the team, Holeš will not take part in training today. We’ll see what the doctors say tomorrow. We will decide accordingly. Otherwise, the whole nomination that is here is going to train. I believe that we will be able to handle it all.”

The head coach had to make four changes to the roster during the week, plus the call-up of Jan Kuchta. After Pavel Kadeřábek’s excuse, two other right wingers, Lukáš Masopust and Vladimír Coufal, also dropped out.

“When you make a nomination, you’re already kind of preparing. Then when the excuses come, you have to react differently. That makes it more complicated. On the other hand, those players who are now in the game can show off and show that they have what it takes. Maybe they will ask for a permanent place and there will be more competition.”

After Patrik Schick’s return, there are a few questions. Will the ailing Adam Hložek remain in the lineup? Will he start in place of Antonín Barák or from the left wing position?

“I admit that we are still deciding, we are thinking. After today’s training we will decide how the composition of the extreme defenders will look like. Overall, there are not many question marks in the lineup, I wouldn’t see it as dramatic.”

If the Czech Republic wants to finish second, it needs to beat the island team. A good atmosphere should help, as the fans, who bought most of the available tickets, are also aware of the importance of the match.

“After a long time the stadium should be full, according to my information there are only a few unsold tickets left. I believe that some people will still decide to come and support us. We will play to win because of them. At that moment you don’t think that we already have something in our pocket,” concluded Šilhavý.
