Iga Swiatek is currently at the absolute top of the WTA rankings. The twenty-one year old Polish tennis player holds the number one position with a whopping 10,355 points. This year she has managed to win eight tournaments.
Since January, she has managed to play 72 matches, only eight times leaving as a loser. In addition, from mid-February until the beginning of July, she did not lose a single match. For the time being, Barbora Krejcikova is the last player who has managed this difficult task.
She has won 42 matches on the hard surface, and has been unbeaten in Doha, Indian Wells, Miami, San Diego and the US Open. It is expected that the Pole could also dominate the final event of the season.
She will face Daria Kasatkina, the twenty-five-year-old Russian tennis player, in the Group A opener. On the WTA rankings, she can currently be found in eighth position with 2,935 points. This is also her ranking maximum.
The Russian is also doing well on the hard surface. Kasatkina won a valuable trophy in San Jose and then in Granby, Canada. However, she narrowly qualified for the Tournament of Champions as her compatriot Veronika Kudermetova scored only 140 points less.
Šwiatek is undoubtedly the favourite for the sixth time. She lost only the opening duel, which was played last year. This year, the opponents faced each other four times and the Russian failed to win even one set.
