Hummels after the defeat in the LM final: we showed a lot of courage, heart and footballing skill. We lacked little to score…
Borussia Dortmund did not make it to the top of the season, falling to Real Madrid in the Champions League final. The veteran of the team Mats Hummels did not hide his disappointment and admitted that his team was not far from winning if not for not converting chances.

The Champions League final of the 2023/24 edition is history. Real Madrid became the champions with coach Carlo Ancelotti, who was not the better team in the first half, but worked hard in the second half and went on to win.
Borussia Dormund once again experienced the disappointment of losing in the final. Even the outgoing Marco Reus and thirty-five-year-old Mats Hummels, who is one of the club’s legends, took it badly.
He has been with the club since the 2007/08 season, when he joined from Bayern, and has been there for pretty much his entire career, except for three seasons when he tried his hand at senior football at Bayern.
This is the second time he has experienced the taste of final defeat at Dortmund, the last time it happened in the 2012/13 season. What did he say after another setback to the team of his heart?
Hummels after the final defeat
“We showed a lot of courage, heart and footballing skill. We lacked a little bit to score… And then we conceded a goal. That’s what Real always do,” Hummels said after the game.
“It shows their quality. It took a bit of luck today,” he added. But Dortmund lacked that, especially in the first half. After that, however, Dortmund were held by the excellent goalkeeper Kobel, otherwise the score could have been much higher.
