Rafael Nadal dominated the Australian Open and won a record 21st Grand Slam. But besides the trophy, he also took a hefty package from Melbourne.

The Spanish tennis player returned to the courts after almost half a year, when he missed Wimbledon and the US Open due to a leg injury. No one knew what kind of shape he would be in, but the 35-year-old icon surprised everyone and dominated the whole tournament.

With a heroic comeback in the final, Nadal won his 21st Grand Slam and took the lead ahead of Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic.

Moreover, according to the financial calculations, tennis seems to have put the coronavirus pandemic behind it. For his victory in Australia, Nadal will receive 2,758,640 euros (roughly 67 million crowns), while finalist Daniil Medvedev will take home 1,379,320 euros (about 33.5 million crowns) for his second-place finish in Melbourne.

Overall, Nadal has already earned 114,908,640 euros in his career on the courts. Although he leads the big three in Grand Slams, he is only third in this aspect. Federer has earned €117,122,000 with racket in hand, all led by Djokovic, who has landed €138,792,000.

Another grand slam and money can be added by Nadal at the end of May/June, when his beloved French Open will be played in Paris. He has already dominated the second Grand Slam of the year thirteen times.
