Already today we will see the heavyweight boxing champion battle between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua. How do the boxing legends see the rematch after almost a year?
The rematch for the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight boxing title belts between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua is just around the corner. Already this evening we will see the denouement of the next measure of power of these fighters.
The rematch is of course generating a lot of hype and media interest. Can the Ukrainian boxer beat his British rival for the second time or will Joshua live up to his words about the return of the king? Boxing legends agree on a clear winner.
Tyson Fury, the current WBC World Heavyweight Champion
Even though the ‘Gypsy King’ is technically retired, he might have more of a stake in the outcome of this fight than anyone else, as he will undoubtedly be offered the opportunity to fight the winner of the bout that unifies all the heavyweight belts.
“Joshua’s had a great career, he’s done well in it, but he just doesn’t have the engine to fight the full 12 rounds,” revealed Fury according to Talksport.com. “Since he didn’t take advantage of my offer to train him for this fight, Robert Garcia and ten others like him won’t help him beat Usyk,” hinting at a change of trainer ahead of the rematch on Joshua’s side.
Mike Tyson, the youngest heavyweight champion of the world
“It’s going to be tough to beat Usyk, ” opined the formerly scariest man on the planet. “(Usyk) is too fast and in the first fight he overpowered Joshua with his jab,” he described the reason for his first failure.
“That’s the only thing he didn’t master, he didn’t master his punch and his movement,” he explained. “Joshua has to put a lot of pressure on him and that pressure has to last the whole fight,” he offered a possible tactic for the British fighter.
“He’s a powerful puncher, but he’s not that accurate and you have to be accurate against a fighter like Usyk,” the boxing legend said. “With his movement and jab, I think Usyk will outsmart this guy, ” he concluded his prediction.
Deontay Wilder, former WBC World Heavyweight Champion
Even former WBC heavyweight world champion Deontay Wilder, who was the only one who was able to keep up with Tyson Fury when he managed to draw in their first meeting of strength, has a big interest in this fight. In case Tyson Fury stays retired, promoter Eddie Hearn has already hinted that Wilder will be the one to challenge the winner of this fight.
“I’m going with Usyk, I think a lot of people see it the same way,” Wilder predicted. “At the end of the day it’s boxing, so we’ll see, but I think the winner will be Usyk,” he said succinctly.
