Lionel Messi is a free agent, but it may not be for long. PSG are showing great interest and want to acquire the Argentine magician as soon as possible. When could a deal be done?

Messi has spent his entire playing career at Barcelona, but he won’t be continuing. Due to the financial problems of the Catalans, he cannot renew his contract and therefore became a free agent.

So what about the interest of other clubs? Probably every club would like to bid for Messi’s services. Who wouldn’t want to have such a superstar in their team? But the problem is who can afford such a player. That is why Paris Saint-Germain is the most likely future employer.

Messi has reportedly even met with the current coach of the Parisians, Mauricio Pochettino, who presented the future plans of the club to one of the best cannoneers of all time. It is also a big plus that they are both Argentinian, plus he has Neymar and another compatriot Ángel di María at the club.

Messi has reportedly been presented with a two-year contract, with an option to extend for one more year. With it, the former Barcelona player is expected to earn up to £25 million a year.

The Parisians have already acquired Sergio Ramos, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Georginio Wijnaldum this year, all for free. On top of that, speedster Achraf Hakimi has transferred to Princes Park. And despite all these signings, PSG can afford to sign another top player.

Messi has already met with PSG’s current star, Neymar, who would like them to play together in the same team again. In the past, they formed a killer trio together at the Camp Nou back in the day with Luis Suárez and now at least this duo could be reunited.

Neymar was even willing to give up his number 10 in favour of his mate. Messi has reportedly refused and will most likely choose number 19, the number he started with in Barcelona and the Argentine national team.

The introduction of Messi in his new jersey could theoretically take place as early as Tuesday. PSG has booked the Eiffel Tower for 10 August, which was used to present the transfer of Neymar or Zlatan Ibrahimovic, for example.

If everything goes through, PSG will already be in a glut of big names this coming season and they will be even better off with Messi. But will it be enough to finally win the coveted Champions League title for the Parisians?
