Leipzig failed to confirm their role as favourites in the 32nd round of the Premier League on Friday, drawing 1-1 at Hoffenheim. They held the lead until the 90th minute, despite Xavi Simons’ red card.
Maximilian Beier scored the first chance of the game in the second minute, but missed the Leipzig goal. On the other side, cannonballer Lois Openda tried his luck, but he too could not find the target from distance. In any case, the start did not bore the spectators.
In the 16th minute, Xaver Schlager had to be substituted due to an injury. A minute later Leipzig almost celebrated, but Xavi Simons’ attempt to the right post was brilliantly pulled back by Hoffenheim’s German goalkeeper Oliver Bauman.
The next 15 minutes belonged to the home side, but Andrej Kramaric’s most dangerous attempt ended up in the goalkeeper’s net. Benjamin Šešek’s attempt on the other side also failed to take off, he also missed the net by a whisker.
Then Kramaric threw his chance away again and Leipzig celebrated. Šeško pounced on the ball and, unlike his header a few minutes earlier, placed the ball just inside the left post.
After the change of sides, Kramaric tried his luck again, but this time he didn’t challenge the visiting goalkeeper and Hoffenheim were still trailing. On the other side, left back Benjamin Henrichs fired, but this time goalkeeper Bauman handled it with ease.
In the 72nd minute, the visitors made it difficult for the three points when midfielder Simons picked up his second yellow card. Substitute David Jurásek was already on the pitch at that moment. And in the 90th minute, he watched Hoffenheim draw level at 1-1.
In particular, Kramaric’s header celebrated the success and set the final score at 1-1. Leipzig remain in fourth place, Hoffenheim are seventh, one point ahead of Freiburg.
