Erling Haaland has finally decided which brand of cleats he will wear. And he returned to Nike, with whom he had been under contract since he was 14. He also earned himself a luxury financial bonus.
It’s no secret that footballers earn huge sums of money through advertising, sponsorships and other contracts in addition to their contracts at clubs.
One of the biggest earners in the industry is a contract with the brand of soccer cleats that the player wears. In addition, the bigger the player’s name, the more money he collects.
Erling Haaland has had a contract with Nike since he was 14 years old. But perhaps because he entered into it so young and had no name, he didn’t receive as much money as he would have liked and didn’t renew his contract when it ended in January 2022.
So over the past year, he’s switched between Puma Ultra, Adidas X and Nike Mercurial Vapor cleats. After a year, however, Haaland decided to re-sign with American firm Nike.
He signed a 10-year contract and will receive 22.7 million euros a year. This is one of the biggest contracts as far as a soccer sponsor is concerned. Haaland has thus logically committed himself not to wear any other brand of football boots for the next ten years.
The English media reports that Haaland chose Nike to follow his idol – Ronaldo Nazário, the Real Madrid icon.
Nike has thus included another star in its ranks. Players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Kylian Mbappé, Kevin de Bruyne and Harry Kane are already major stars.
