Griezmann was the victim of a bad deal between the clubs. Why is the French footballer not getting the minutes he deserves?
Griezmann hasn’t got much space on the pitch in the two La Liga games he’s played so far. At Atlético Madrid, he always started on the bench and was always on the pitch for 29 minutes. What is behind this?

Antoine Griezmann is an Atlético Madrid legend. For five years he was the driving force behind the Madrid attack and he also regularly made his mark for the national team. He was highly respected at the club and it was a blow to the fans when he opted for a move to Barcelona in 2019.
Here, he got to know a completely different style of play and struggled a lot in the beginning with the Messi – Suárez duo that often left him out of the game. Perhaps it was the departure of Suárez that helped the whole situation, and Griezmann shone in his second season with twenty points.
However, more reinforcements came to Barcelona and Griezmann became, thanks to his huge salary, redundant. The next logical step was to return to Atlético Madrid, on loan with an option.
In his second season at Atlético, however, Griezmann gets virtually no space on the pitch. In two games he played a total of 58 minutes, 29 minutes in each game. This is despite scoring a goal in the opening round and having a pretty good preparation.
Unfortunately, Griezmann’s minutes don’t seem to be based solely on his performances. According to the Spanish media, this is due to a not-so-good deal between Barcelona and Atlético.
This is because if Antoine Griezmann plays a maximum of thirty minutes per game in La Liga, Atlético will not have to pay the Catalan club an exit clause of 40 million euros. And since the management has no plans to keep the French striker, Griezmann will most likely continue to sit on the bench.
