Great character Ronaldo! The referee whistled a penalty against him, but the Portuguese called it off
Cristiano Ronaldo showed his great character. In an Asian Champions League match, the referee whistled a penalty after he fell, but the Portuguese didn’t feel the foul, so he went to the referee to have the penalty revoked. All this in a goalless draw.
Cristiano Ronaldo showed his great character. In an Asian Champions League match, the referee whistled a penalty after he fell, but the Portuguese didn’t feel the foul, so he went to the referee to get the penalty overturned. All this in a goalless draw.
You just don’t see that. When a penalty is whistled and the fouled player knows it wasn’t a foul, in the vast majority of cases he lowers his ears and is happy to have given his team the advantage.
There are exceptions, of course. And Cristiano Ronaldo is one of them. For in the very second minute he showed unprecedented character.
In fact, he fell in the opponent’s penalty area after a slip by the opponent and it looked like a clear penalty. The referee did not hesitate and immediately pointed to the penalty spot. But he got some unexpected advice, better and more accurate than the VAR.
Cristiano himself came to him and told him that it wasn’t a foul and to call the penalty. The referee did so and Al-Nassr did not take the penalty.
After that, the game got a bit more complicated for the Saudi Arabian team, as in the 17th minute, stopper Ali Lajami saw a red card and Al-Nassr finished the game against Persepolis with ten men.
Even so, the match ended in a goalless draw, thanks to which Al-Nassr secured their qualification to the knockout stage of the competition. In addition, the first place is already secured, with a five-point lead over second-placed Persepolis before the last match.
Although Ronaldo missed the chance to score another goal, he showed his character. However, in 13 league games he has already netted 15 goals and added 7 assists. This makes him the top scorer in the competition ahead of second-placed Aleksandar Mitrovic (11).
