If you want someone who will score beautiful goals like a treadmill, call Dimitri Payet. Already scoring almost exclusively incredible goals at West Ham, he continues to do so at Olympique Marseille. In the Conference League, he scored a goal of the year candidate.
A direct kick from any angle, right and left footed, dribbling through 6 players, none of this gives Payet a problem. The French midfielder has a patent for beautiful goals.
He scored another one in the quarter-finals of the Conference League against PAOK. The 35-year old veteran first passed the ball to Gerson for a goal and then scored the second himself. And it was an exhibition goal.
Cengiz Ünder played a corner kick behind the big whitewash, where Payet stood ready. The Frenchman then leaned on the ball and swept the crossbar with an incredible volley.
The 35-year-old has a truly impressive kicking technique, it’s just a shame he didn’t have it in his head to take it even higher. After all, we could regularly see stunts like this at the highest level of football.
Although Payet probably can’t complain about his career. Nantes, St. Etienne, Lille, West Ham and 8 seasons at Marseille. Plus he was France’s best player at Euro 2016, which went all the way to the final. However, the disappointment still prevails that Payet could have made it to even better clubs.
