Coach Steven Gerrard announces his third summer signing. First, Philippe Coutinho from Barcelona and then Boubacar Kamara from Olympique Marseille joined Aston Villa. Now, Brazilian stopper Diego Carlos from Sevilla has transferred to the English club, waiting only for a medical and official confirmation.

Diego Carlos is a twenty-nine year old Brazilian stopper in whom Newcastle United were hugely interested in the winter transfer window. The player himself has already agreed personal terms and a potential five-year contract.

However, Sevilla didn’t want to lose their key player in the middle of the season and if it came to that, the €35 million on offer didn’t seem enough.

Now, however, the Barra Bonita native is finally leaving Sevilla, to whom he transferred on July 1, 2019 from FC Nantes for €15 million.

Thus, Aston Villa, who paid 31 million euros for him, become the new destination for Carlos. The market value of the Brazilian, according to Transfermarkt, is 45 million euros, but even so, the Spanish club made money on Carlos.

However, the length of the contract has not been disclosed. The transfer as such has not yet been officially confirmed. Although both clubs have already announced an agreement, the central defender will still have to undergo a medical.

During his time at Sevilla, Carlos has played a total of 136 games, scoring 6 goals and notching 1 assist.

Apart from that, he also won the Europa League winners’ trophy with the Spanish club in the 2019/20 season.
