The key points will finally be on the line
The Bundesliga is often unfairly criticised. Bayern may have won the title ten times in a row, but it is by no means a boring league. Especially not in this season, which is shaping up to be the most exciting in many years.
The reason? Just look at the table. Neither the Munich team nor Borussia Dortmund are in the top two places. The Bundesliga is dominated by Union Berlin and Freiburg with the same number of points. The aforementioned giants are two points behind both teams.
However, Bayern and Dortmund are not far behind in the table either. On the contrary. Twelfth-placed Mainz is only four points behind the participants in the match known as Der Klassiker.
Any point loss could shake up the table for both Bayern and Dortmund. Moreover, a win may also mean nothing. On the other hand, a loss of points can bring a wave of nervousness to either camp. The Bavarian giant in particular is not used to the similar woes of recent years.
Dortmund again as an underdog, but more dangerous than before
Borussia Dortmund will go into the match as a traditional underdog. Rightly so. After all, it has lost in its last eight matches, and has won only once overall in the last ten games, in 2019.
But the Westphalian team has been looking hard in recent years. It has suffered from injuries, poor quality in the squad and, moreover, has not found a suitable coach who can bring the team to the right level. The arrivals then were more for the purpose of making the club quick money rather than really strengthening the team in the long term.
But in the summer things happened. The new coach Edin Terzic brought in great reinforcements in defence. Niklas Süle arrived from Bayern, the highly talented Nico Schlotterbeck from Freiburg. The team was only shaken by the departure of Erling Haaland, whose replacement has not yet been found.
And although Dortmund are also losing, it doesn’t look bad at all. Despite the shortcomings, they are looking bolder than in previous seasons. In the games against Bayern, it looked from the opening whistle as if Dortmund were losing before the game. Now it will be different.
Moreover, if anywhere in recent years Borussia have been able to keep up with Bayern, it was their home stadium. In Munich it ended in a debacle, but Signal Iduna Park has witnessed great shootouts and evenly matched duels.
Bayern also lost Robert Lewandowski, who was used to regularly destroying his former team with one goal after another.
Stars and generational talents clashed
As usual, we will see mini-matches that will be very interesting. After all, both Bayern and Dortmund always have not only world stars in their squad, but also rising talents who will dominate world football in a few years.
Among the rising stars are Jude Bellingham and Jamal Musiala, who at their young age are already among the key figures of their teams and their duel will be crucial in this match.
Dortmund will unfortunately miss captain Marco Reus, but Borussia will still want to show their quality in the offensive department. They will definitely want to rely on the defensive line, which will be threatened by Sadio Mané.
